[ENGLISH] Participatory Study Day “Disinformation & fake news: What remains of the truth? Who benefits from the crime?”
SDS supported the Royal Academy of Belgium in organizing a day of citizen-researcher exchanges on fake news and scapegoats. In times of crisis, we seek meaning and explanations, often reassuring and simple ones. These narratives typically designate culprits because we want victims and those responsible.
Disinformation, conspiracy theories, and post-truth are now part of our daily lives. What mechanisms underlie these phenomena? What role do media and social networks play?
The day addresses two themes: the mechanisms of constructing/spreading disinformation, and the figure of the scapegoat with its intentions and motivations.

SDS a accompagné l’Académie Royale de Belgique dans l’organisation d’une journée d’échanges citoyens-chercheurs sur les fake news et boucs émissaires. En temps de crise, nous cherchons du sens et des explications, souvent rassurantes et simples. Ces récits désignent généralement des coupables car nous voulons des victimes et des responsables.
Désinformation, théories du complot et post-vérité font désormais partie de notre quotidien. Quels mécanismes sous-tendent ces phénomènes ? Quel rôle pour les médias et réseaux sociaux ?
La journée aborde deux thématiques : les mécanismes de construction/diffusion de la désinformation, et la figure du bouc émissaire avec ses intentions et motivations.
